PARTNERSHIP COMMITTEES

Prevention and Education
This committee provides input regarding
programs, services, and materials aimed at
deterring individuals from using and / or
abusing alcohol and other illegal drugs. It
gathers and shares information regarding
skill-building programs, community or
professional mobilization, and social and
environmental change programs for both youth and
adults. The group is
taking applications from schools interested in
participating in October’s Red Ribbon awareness
activities. It also will begin planning Drug
Free Work Week activities for that month.

JUSTICE
The Justice Committee is concerned with the
legality and consequences of substance abuse and
examines law enforcement and prosecutorial
efforts. The committee tracks court disposition
of drug and alcohol-related matters, encourages
the development of neighborhood watch programs,
DWI patrolling, and education and proactive
community policing. The committee is planning
to recognize the top DWI officers in the county
at the May Drug Free Partnership meeting, and
will also post billboards to try to deter
driving under the influence.

INTERVENTION AND
TREATMENT
This committee’s efforts center on the services
for citizens who are in recovery from problems
associated with addiction and substance abuse.
It works to further develop services which deal
with interventions, referral, and assessment, as
well as aftercare and continuum of treatment.
Members are working to offer an Addiction
Recovery Awareness Fair event at Marquette Mall
on September 26. Groups wishing to have a
display table are invited to contact the
partnership.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES
|
Middle and high school youth
from across the county are
brought together under the
guidance of a Youth Advisor.
They plan and develop their own
initiatives to address substance
use / abuse by their peers
within their own school
populations, backed by and
financially supported by the
Partnership.
Interested youth may contact
Brandon Williams at
bwilliams@mcas.k12.in.us
or call 219-916-0521 to help
plan and develop activities to
support alcohol, drug and
tobacco-free lifestyles.

THE RED RIBBON CAMPAIGN
|
Red
Ribbon is an annual countywide
effort each October to heighten
community awareness and increase
education. The Partnership
encourages businesses, churches,
government, and all county
residents to participate and to
especially support our children
and youth in increasing
awareness and striving to reduce
alcohol and drug abuse in
LaPorte County. Small grants
are awarded to fund a variety of
activities, including essay and
art contests, rallies, and other
activities designed for and by
our children and teens.

GRANT FUNDING
|
Funding is obtained through
court-imposed fines from
convicted alcohol and
drug-related offenders. By state
law it is placed into the
Community Drug Free Fund. 75%
of these funds are annually
awarded through a grant process
to community organizations and
individuals involved in
designing and implementing
projects and services addressing
the actions recommended in the
County Plan. |
